An RE.net taxonomy: Types of real estate weblogs

By Greg Swann, BloodhoundBlog

At the start of this book, I pointed out that there is no one right way to do a real estate weblog. Webloggers tend to be very stout-minded people, so it’s easy for us to convey the idea that my-way-is-the-only-way. Likewise, commercial vendors of weblogging solutions are committed to selling and re-selling a one-size-fits-all strategy.

On size does not fit all.

The real estate weblogging taxonomy shown here illustrates this idea perfectly. Taxonomy is the science of categorizing things. Of course, not everything can be neatly categorized, but the elucidation of categories can focus the mind, helping us to understand where certain weblogs might fit, which are hybrids of two or more categories, and which can only be described by the creation of new categories.

This is an organic list. I may not have created enough categories, or I may have created some in error. I may have certain weblogs — offered here as examples — miscatalogued. If you think I’ve got something wrong, say so in the comments.

Here’s the best part though: This list can tell you what’s been done so far in real estate weblogging, but nothing can keep you from coming up with something brand new.

Nothing is quite that neat, of course. BloodhoundBlog is an Industry weblog, to be sure, but it also combines elements from the Investor, Loan Officer, Mortgage Industry, Technology and Marketing headings. Many Local Interest real estate weblogs also feature Industry content.

Jay…one forum of real estate blogging that has yet to be tapped in a significant manner…1031 exchange specific blogs by a Qualified Intermediary. I am trying to fulfill that need as a Qualified Intermediary for 1031 Exchange Coordinators out of Bellevue, WA. I’m just getting a stable of posts together and trying to form a solid base of solid contacts. Let me know what you think of our blog.
